All manufactures are lying on this sound card driver Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221. I can enable Stereo mix on Windows 7 64 and Vista on ADI SoundMax chip. It is not a RIAA problem. They are just lazy to add the functionality back (I heard that window XP driver can do it). Someone from this thread http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Sound&thread.id=564&view=by_date_ascending&page=3 confirmed with Conexant that the chip supports stereo mix/microphone playback.

There is a freeware that is similar to Total Recorder http://www.applian.com/sound-recorder/

This pisses me off to the greatest extent. I have a lenovo t60 and have gone through all the hoops you have and still haven't found a decent solution. You KNOW this was caused by the cocksuckers at the RIAA and the lobbyists that work for them. Great so people were ripping music by way of their stereo mix.... surely the answer is to take it away from everyone, including the people that use it regularly for legitimate reasons. I can tell you that the next laptop I buy WILL have this function or I won't buy it. Send a message to the manufacturers and let them know that you won't buy their product because they caved in to the RIAA and crippled an otherwise working function. Lenovo, I love my laptop aside from this but your ignoring the many people who are pissed (including me) about this is enough to make me change brands next time!
